Birth Defects

Whether or not you are going into nursing, medicine, or even something non-medical, and you happened across my website, you need to know that not everyone is perfect. (No one is perfect!) Many times you may say something hurtful around someone and not even realize that it relates to that person. For example, if you say something is retarded around someone, call someone a "Freak of Nature", or ask "What are you deaf or something?" You never know if they are mildly retarted, have a retarded child or other relative, if they are mildly deaf or have a relative that is hearing impaired, or had to go many surgeries to correct a birth defect to look "normal".
The reason I add this page is to make everyone aware of a cleft palate and cleft lip, and how they can be surgically treated. As I stated on my homepage, I was was born with a cleft lip and palate. I have had 18 surgeries to correct it, and still could use more. (...if I had the money.)

Here are a couple of views before my cleft lip repair.

This is me after my cleft lip repair. (in the hospital!) :D
