Welcome to NursingJourney.com. My name is Mi'Shelle. I am new RN with a Associates of Applied Science in Nursing, and soon will be going back for my Bachelor's degree! I graduated on May 4th, 2008 with my Associates degree, and took the NCLEX on Wednesday, June 18, 2008. The NCLEX test shut off at 75 questions, and I found out on June 20, 2008, that I passed!!!
I accepted a position in the OR with a nationally-recognized University hospital, and started my Surgical Services (OR) internship on July 21st! A month into my last semester of nursing school, I was offered the position in the OR! I absolutely love it! I can't wait until I am finish with my internship, though! Working in the OR takes time to learn....thank God for a 9-month internship!
I have also recently been accepted at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) for the RN-BSN bridge program to get my Bachelor's degree!! I have already completed all the support courses for the Bachelor's (chemistry, history, gov, stats, etc.). It is a completely online, 16-month program that is considered a UTA/UTSW partnership program. I should be finished, and have my Bachelor's degree by June 2010!
Starting back to school towards my ADN:
I interviewed for a nursing school scholarship in June 2004, and received the acceptance letter in October 2004. This scholarship is now closed, and there were only 1000+ scholarships given NATIONWIDE! I am extremely honored I have been chosen for this incredible opportunity. (I decided to accept an offer at a different facility, therefore I will be paying that money back!
I was born with a cleft lip, and cleft palate. I have had 18 surgeries. The first one was when I was 6 months old, and the last being August, 2003. (See pics) I guess this is the reason I have always wanted to be in the medical field. I feel a strong need to be a nurse every time I walk into a hospital. Everytime I deal with medical staff, I know I am supposed to be part of it. I finally will get to live my dream. I will be a nurse!
Several people have e-mailed me asking why I made the site, how I find the time, or how I decided to make the website in the first place. Below is a copy of my response to one.
I have been making websites as a hobby for 7-8 years, so it really doesn't take that long to make a new page. Also, now that I have a standard design, I can just save a page to a new name, and make changes. :) So, it really doesn't take that much time to make the pages....it's like typing in English to me. lol
As for the powerpoints, I think it helps me learn the information while making them, and served as a great resource to study by when I couldn't be at the lab. I already knew how to make powerpoints, so that was not a problem. Now, the more I make, the faster I get at it. :)
I'm not in nursing school yet, so things may change then!! I will still do my diary when I so feel led. I'm not sure how many powerpoints will be made then, but only time will tell. If I can do it, I will. I know clinicals will take up a bunch of study time, and I will be taking on more classes at once than I am now. :)
What possessed me to do it? hmmmm, good question. LOL
I wanted to keep a journal of my thoughts, through good times and bad, while on my "journey". So, I started it by making a diary. I want to be able to look back years from now, and remember what I went through to get there. If I ever loose the love, I hope by reading my previous thoughts, the fire will be lit again.
Once I started A&P 1 I took pics of everything because I knew I HAD to make an A! I shared them with the two ladies I sat with in lab by putting them on the internet, and letting them download them. I just worked on the "beautification" of the site as time went on, as well as added different things for different classes.
So, now that I know how well the quizzes help(ed) me and the two girls in A&P 1, I continue to make new ones to study by. I share them because I know not everyone thinks about taking pictures to learn from, and I also know that every resource you can find may teach you in a different way. One of those ways will stick in your mind, and you'll finally "get it". :)
I debated sharing, I'm only human. lol I thought about my competition using them and getting in before me. lol However, guilt and my urge to care overpowered the negative thoughts. lol
So, I write about and share my "Journey Through Nursing School",and Pray I always remember it's "Fun2Care". Fun2care@yahoo.com
Please feel free to sign my guestbook to let me know you were here.

Have some spare time for reading? Here are 2 of the 5 papers from my English 1301 class.

My role models are very special to me, my family. My grandmother, great aunt, and several of my aunts were nurses.
I remember when I first started out in school, I told my grandfather I was going to school to be a nurse. I remember him looking at me so proudly and saying, "You’ll make a great nurse! Your nanny was a nurse too!" Sometimes he would ask, "So, you're going to make a nurse?"
They're both gone now, but I know they would be so proud of me.
Nanny & Grandaddy, I'm finally going to nursing school. ...I'm "going to make a nurse". |

A Nurse's Prayer
Author Unknown
Help me as I care for my patients today,
Be there with me, O Lord, I pray
Make my words kind --it means so much--
And in my hands place Your healing touch
Let your love shine through all that I do,
So those in need may hear and feel You.
